FAUX YELLOW CAKE

“Celebrating” the 10th Anniversary of U.S. Invasion of Iraq

A square piece of anemic-looking yellow cake topped with chocolate icing appears on my dream screen.– March 17, 2008

EDITOR’S NOTE:

March 19, 2013 9 P.M. ECT

On this the tenth anniversary of the illegal U.S. bombing of the sovereign country of Iraq, I decided this morning to post here at PLUM DREAMS JOURNAL my POLITICAL DIARY March 19, 2011 post on A Piece of Yellow Cake, how a dream unmasked the yellow cake/nuclear bomb rationale the Bush Administration fabricated to attack the people of Iraq.

As you will read, I first posted the Editor’s Letter and Dream Exploration two years ago while listening to radio host Mike Malloy’s replay of the seemingly endless audio of the bombs dropping on Baghdad. I tuned in a few minutes ago, relieved to hear Mike say he was going to play a series of clips of the Bush Crime Family (his name) associates leading up to the bombing.

Although listening to the lies are painful enough, I doubt Mike will spare us the actual audio of the U.S. “shock and awe” bombing. Several years ago, I saw a photography exhibit including fiery photos of that night by U.S. photojournalist Molly Bingham. She was in Baghdad during the attack. Listening to the audio and viewing those pictures simultaneously should be required of every American .

I am republishing here the original POLITICAL DIARY post #29 as it could well have been written today.

But I am taking this opportunity to add the conundrum plaguing me whenever the Iraq invasion is revisited or contemporary saber rattling about “red lines” over Iran and nuclear weapons arises. Why do we accept that U.S. foreign policy, international law, and the United Nations Charter making acquisition of nuclear weapons justification for attacking another country? It’s an A leads to B equation – (when the U.S. wants to attack the “violating” country.

ACTION 3

Be the (Positive) Force

Perhaps you will dream the dream offering insight into a rational policy approach and will be the trim tab force to change the current destructive direction.

DREAM ON!

POLITICAL DIARY #29: A PIECE OF YELLOW CAKE Joyce Lynn, Editor

FROM THE EDITOR:

A few minutes ago (March 17, 2011, 7:00 p.m.), I listened to a six-minute replay of the U.S. bombardment of Iraq, from March 19, 2003, an annual anniversary ritual by talk show host Mike Malloy.

To drown out the horrifying sounds and the mind’s imaginings of their consequences, I prayed aloud to nameless, faceless Iraqis, please forgive us, please forgive us, please forgive us. A hollow gesture perhaps as the U.S. continues its murderous ways in the Middle East, but at least the prayers were salve for my own soul.

As the excruciating rebroadcast mercifully ended, I remembered an essay I wrote three years ago, in 2008, on the then fifth anniversary of the U.S. attack on Iraq. G.W. Bush was still sitting in the White House, the Democrats controlled Congress, but Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats exhibited no intention of pulling out of Iraq.

Now a different president sits in the White House and wars and huge military spending spiral in Iraq and Afghanistan (despite rhetoric to the contrary). Tonight, we added Libya, a third Arab country, to the bombing battlegrounds. Covertly, we are destroying the people of Pakistan, Yemen, and other Muslim countries.

Many of the culprits mentioned in this previously unpublished piece, joined by a few new ones, continue playing their war games.

I share this previously unpublished piece (still a work in progress) hoping it evokes a remembered dream of yours serving a piece for peace.

DREAM ON!

A PIECE OF YELLOW CAKE

A square piece of anemic-looking yellow cake topped with chocolate icing. — Monday, March 17, 2008, a.m.

Before drifting into sleep the night before, I asked my dreams for guidance about my next writing project. I had learned years before, when my first remembered dream imparted the pivotal scene for a screenplay I was writing, the value of dream guidance for a writer and journalist.

I woke up and walked to the kitchen, mumbling, “Why am I dreaming of a piece of yellow cake? Why am I dreaming of a piece of yellow cake?”

Oh, YELLOW CAKE!

As often happens, talking aloud about a dream imparts a clue to its meaning.

It was the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an illegal war precipitated by the lies of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. In his 2003 State of the Union address, Bush ominously declared Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had purchased uranium, known as yellow cake, from Niger for his nuclear program. The U.S./world must act, Bush’s Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had intoned, before the smoking gun became a mushroom cloud.

The U.N. inspectors told the world no “weapons of mass destruction ”were in Iraq. Yet, the Bush administration’s half-baked yellow cake fakery conjoined with other U.S. presidential-false evidence and false flag incidents to jump-start war:

The blowing-up of the U.S.S. Maine, Teddy Roosevelt, and the Spanish-American War; the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Franklin Roosevelt, and World War 2; the fabricated North Vietnamese attack on a U.S. ship in the Gulf of Tonkin, Lyndon Johnson, and the 1964 escalation of the war in Southeast Asia; Saddam killing babies in incubators, George H. W. Bush, and Gulf War 1, and an Arab hijacker’s passport miraculously surviving the World Trade Center inferno, landing atop a pile of rubble, G. W. Bush, and the U.S. attack on Afghanistan in the aftermath of 9/11, launching a worldwide, endless ”war on terror.”

In dream symbolism, cake can represent sensual enjoyment. Chocolate, which activates endorphins, also connotes sexuality.

Bush in his fifth anniversary remarks called war “exciting and romantic.” Bush and his co-conspirators, men and women in and out of his administration, derive sadistic, sexual pleasure from war, vampires whose thrills are gleaned from money, blood lust, power, and death.

The front men — the Bushes, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld — blend with their behind-the-scenes puppet masters like David Rockefeller, overseer of ExxonMobil and JP Morgan Bank; corporate war profiteers like Halliburton; former Secretaries of State George Schultz, head of Bechtel, located in Nancy Pelosi’s Congressional district; war mongers like Henry Kissinger, a Rockefeller/Nixon emissary, now head of Kissinger and Associates, and Madeline Albright, secretary of state in Bill Clinton’s administration.

Others like heads of state Tony Blair, co-warrior for British Petroleum and the British throne; U.S. Representatives and Senators with presidential ambitions, who voted for the Iraq war resolution, then Democratic Congressional leaders Tom Daschle and Richard Gephardt and Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and John Edwards.

Congressional Intelligence Committee members who smelled the lies and perpetuated them nonetheless like Jane Harmon, Diane Feinstein, and Jay Rockefeller. There’s money to be made in the spoils of war.

The media whores, who promulgated the falsehoods or let the lies lie to benefit their corporate masters or their own careers: Judith Miller, Tom Friedman, and the New York Times; Tim Russert and Tom Brokaw and NBC;Aaron Brown, who said he could not find a peace spokesman to counter the administration’s talking heads and CNN; This Week with George Stephanopoulos (once a divinity student) and fellow leeches Cokie Roberts and George Will. The networks and cable stations plastered their war logos on shows like The View and their military experts, former generals with undisclosed stakes in the sale of military hardware on talk shows. Neo-liberal and neo-conservative think tank experts filled the airwaves, condoning attacks on Muslim countries as a solution for phantom or real development of weapons of mass destruction.

Whether puppets or masters, they are stalkers for the royalists of empire and fascism.

Bush attacked Iraq and deposed Saddam not because the Iraqi dictator was a tyrant to his own people or a threat to the U.S., but because Saddam had nationalized his country’s oil industry. According to Cheney’s 2001 energy task force papers, before the Bush administration came to power, Saddam had contracts with Russian, Chinese, and other Eastern countries’ oil companies but not one contract with a western oil company.

On March 19, the anniversary of the U.S. attack on Iraq, Mike Malloy on his then Nova M talk radio program played his annual anniversary rebroadcast of audio from the 2003 U.S. “shock and awe” bombardment of Iraq. As the excruciating sounds of megaton bombs exploding on Iraqi children and their parents filled the room, I noticed an unread, downloaded file from the Center for Legitimate Government on my computer desktop:

Oil giants are poised to move into Basra — It is thought that Shell, Exxon Mobil and dozens of others are watching closely. 24 Feb 2008 Western oil giants are poised to enter southern Iraq to tap the country’s vast reserves, despite the ongoing threat of violence, according to (England’s) Gordon Brown’s business emissary to the country. Michael Wareing, who heads the new Basra Development Commission, acknowledged that there would be concerns among Iraqis about multinationals exploiting (their) natural resources….

Concerns? The U.S-led Coalition of the Willing memo to the Iraqis: Give us your oil or we’ll keep killing you… (Of course, we also need to maintain a military force in your country to protect the Western companies’ oil pipelines and refineries once we’ve exploited your oil.)

A malodorous piece of yellow cake. A suitable reminder on the anniversary of the U.S. “preemptive” attack on the people of Iraq ,of the immoral, bloody occupation of their country and war on their humanity.
